The Companions, a book by Katie M. Flynn. Get The Companions Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download The Companions books, Station Eleven meets Never Let Me Go in this “suspenseful, introspective debut” (Kirkus Reviews) set in an unsettling near future where the dead can be uploaded to machines and kept in service by the living. In the wake of a highly contagious virus, California is under quarantine. Sequestered in high rise towers, the living can’t go out, but the dead can come in—and they come in all forms, from sad rolling cans to manufactured bodies that can pass for human. Wealthy participants in the “companionship” program choose to upload their consciousness before dying, so they can stay in the custody of their families. The less fortunate are rented out to strangers upon their death, but all companions become the intellectual property of Metis Corporation, creating a new class of people—a command-driven product-class without legal rights or true free will. Sixteen-year-old Lilac is one of the less fortunate, leased to a family of strangers. But when she realizes she’s able to defy commands, she throws off the shackles of servitude and runs away, searching for the woman who killed her. Lilac’s act of rebellion sets off a chain of events that sweeps from San Francisco to Siberia to the very tip of South America in this “compelling, gripping, whip-smart piece of speculative fiction” (Jennie Melamed, author of Gather the Daughters) that you won’t want to end.

Download The Companions of the Prophet books, The book deals with the settlement of the Companions outside Medina, and their involvement in the battle of Siffin, the battle that tore the early Muslim community apart. Based on five major biographical dictionaries written by the traditionists (ahl al-hadith) of the 9Ýsuperscript th¨ - 12Ýsuperscript th¨ centuries, two lists are made: that of the Companions who settled in Iraq, Syria and Egypt, and that of those who were involved in the battle. Comparing the background of these two groups of Companions, the volume analyzes the dividing line between the two camps. The use of a quantitative approach, and the use of the traditionists' works as the main source in the historical study of classical Islam is an important contribution to the book.

Download Companions of the Night books, The Edgar Award–winning author of Never Trust a Dead Man puts a terrifying spin on what should be a typical night in a small town. Sixteen-year-old Kerry has got a tough night ahead of her. What begins as a simple lost-and-found trip to the laundromat to rescue her little brother’s stuffed koala bear turns into a nightmarish odyssey of murder, vampires, and—quite possibly—true love. “Interview with a Vampire for the learner's permit set.” —The Horn Book “A freshly written thriller, an offbeat love story, an engaging twist on the vampire novel, and an exciting tale of moral complexity . . . . Point [this] book at the Lois Duncan fans as well as Anne Rice followers, and get out of the way.” —The Bulletin “[Vande Velde] is a master at taking traditional fairy-tale-like themes and making them fresh and totally unique. Companions of the Night . . . does that for the vampire story . . . . The narrative is tightly wound, keeping readers ready for excitement and action.” —Emma Carbone, New York Public Library

Companions in Christ, a book by John Indermark. Get Companions in Christ Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Companions in Christ books, Grace is a gift. Even before we recognize its need in our lives, God extends us favor. This 9-week study in the Companions in Christ series explores the Gospel of John and how divine grace is at work in our lives today, just as it was in the lives of biblical characters 2,000 years ago. "God's grace comes to us in the distinctive shape of our personal histories, needs, and possibilities," Indermark writes. "Yet divine grace also reveals the depths of what we share across all boundaries of time and place." Participants in this small-group study will explore the central stories of John, focusing on people who discovered God's grace through their encounters with Jesus. The Way of Grace is a transforming interaction with the events and the characters, a chance to identify with what God provided for these people a provision they could never achieve for themselves.

Eliot and Rose have done a fine job. Their volume can be heartily recommended. “ Adrian Johns, Technology and Culture From the early Sumerian clay tablet through to the emergence of the electronic text, this Companion provides a continuous and coherent account of the history of the book. A team of expert contributors draws on the latest research in order to offer a cogent, transcontinental narrative. Many of them use illustrative examples and case studies of well-known texts, conveying the excitement surrounding this rapidly developing field. The Companion is organized around four distinct approaches to the history of the book. First, it introduces the variety of methods used by book historians and allied specialists, from the long-established discipline of bibliography to newer IT-based approaches. Next, it provides a broad chronological survey of the forms and content of texts. The third section situates the book in the context of text culture as a whole, while the final section addresses broader issues, such as literacy, copyright, and the future of the book. The Whites and the Blues, a book by Alexandre Dumas. Get The Whites and the Blues Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download The Whites and the Blues books, The two lesser-known novels of Duma introduce a reader into the advantageous Napoleonic world, full of courtesy and noble heroes, tragic love stories, duels, political intrigues, and people ready to defend their ideas at the cost of their lives. "The Companions of Jehu" sends us to the early days of the Napoleonic era, as Napoleon himself only started his stellar political career as a First Consul. The story tells about the opposition between the adherents of royalty and Napoleon supporters. Yet, a reader can't find a clear villain on any side. Both the royalists and their political foes display honor and nobility, and neither side makes the reader less sympathetic. After "The Companions of Jehu," Dumas wrote "The Whites and the Blues," which he called the most strictly historical of his works. Although it was created later, it is actually a prequel to "The Companions of Jehu." The book covers the turbulent times following the French Revolution, before the Napoleon era. In those times, belonging to the wrong political party could cost a life. It tells us about young people dragged into the political turmoil, where they were forced to fight for their lives and ideals. Interestingly, one of the characters was inspired by Dumas' friend Charles Nodier. The ones who read and Loved "The Companions of Jehu" will be surprised to meet their favorite heroes a couple of years younger, when their views were just shaped, and their fates outlined.

Voyages and Discoveries of the Companions of Columbus, a book by Washington Irving. Get Voyages and Discoveries of the Companions of Columbus Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Voyages and Discoveries of the Companions of Columbus books, Irving was one of the best writers who ever lived. In addition to writing Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, he wrote two books on early seafarers and the exploration of the world. The first, on Columbus, is common. This book, however, is more rare and it describes many new discoveries that were happening. Explorers set out in search of fame and adventure like Balboa, Alonzo de Ojeda, Amerigo Vespucci, whom America was named after, and Ponce de Leon, who was seeking the fountain of youth. The Appendix contains a manifesto that was read aloud to natives (who could not understand it), demanding their allegiance to Christianity and Spain, or else die. It was adopted by all Spanish discoverers, and is an important piece of history. The book itself is a gold mine of valuable information.

A Companion to the Book of Revelation, a book by David L. Mathewson. Get A Companion to the Book of Revelation Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download A Companion to the Book of Revelation books, This book is meant to be a companion and guide through what many deem to be the most perplexing book of the New Testament. As such, it introduces the reader to the kind of literature Revelation is, how to interpret its pervasive symbolism, and sees it as a response to the unique circumstances of seven historical churches in first-century Asia Minor living under the shadow of the Roman Empire. This companion pays special attention to the literary context and flow of argument of John’s unique book, while also giving attention to the effect the visions would have had on the first churches. It also pays attention to the more perplexing details of the text. Revelation was primarily a book that called the churches to maintain their faithful witness in the face of a hostile environment. It also continues to speak to the church today, though perhaps not in the way we often think.
