Tam Lin, a book by Nicole Dreadful. Get Tam Lin Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Tam Lin books, “What are you doing?” the man asked again. His voice was soft as a rose petal. “Picking roses.” Janet took a step to one side, where she wouldn’t have to stare into the sun. He turned with her and the afternoon sun illuminated his face: high, wide cheekbones beneath eyes as bright and blue as the sky. His full lips were pressed together with displeasure. “Carter Hall is mine,” he said in his too calm, too quiet tone. “Those are my roses.” “Yours?” Janet asked. “It’s in the middle of Chaster’s Wood and Chaster’s Wood is mine. My father gave it to me.” Or he would, when she asked him to. “No one comes to Carter Hall without leave from me.” “I’ll come and go as I please.” Janet lifted her chin stubbornly. “And I’ll ask no leave of you.” In the ruins of Carter Hall, headstrong Lady Janet Dunbar encounters a mysterious stranger. Tam Lin claims Carter Hall as his own, yet Janet believes it to be part of her own lands. Thus begins a battle of wills — and as Janet seeks to assert herself mistress of Carter Hall, she realizes how much more there is at stake… Tam Lin, also known as Child Ballad 39, has been retold many times in many mediums. This version is not intended for readers under 18. Don't miss Nicole Dreadful's other fairy tales for adults: 1. Beauty and the Beast 2. Little Red Riding Hood 3. Tam Lin

Carterhaugh - The Story of Tam Lin, a book by Signe Anita Fuchs. Get Carterhaugh - The Story of Tam Lin Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Carterhaugh - The Story of Tam Lin books, The historical novel Carterhaugh is based on the old Scottish ballad "Tam Lin", which tells how the young, handsome Tam Lin is kidnapped by the Queen of Elves in the forest of Carterhaugh. Jane (Janet), who is expecting his child, rescues him and saves him from being sacrificed to hell. The story is usually set in the period shortly after the Norman Conquest and is about their noble families. However, the characteristics of the plot suggest to me a far earlier age. Fairies and elves date from the Celtic period, when the old Celtic gods were pushed into the background during Christianization. Such beings were then transposed and reinterpreted, and in these guises were preserved in the traditional legends and stories. Also, the mention of hell seems to me to be a Christian interpretation of the Celtic Otherworld. In addition, many well-known Scottish families have claimed the tale of Tam Lin (Lynn, Munroe, Dunbar, Douglas, Lord of Foulis), but none can be unequivocally associated with it - suggesting the story is much older. The ballad ends with Jane winning Tam Lin, but what happened after that, and what was the background? Who was Tam Lin really? Who was the Elf Queen, and who were the people of Carterhaugh? I try to offer an answer set at the end of the ninth century, when the kingdom of the Celtic Gododdin, formerly conquered and suppressed by the Germanic Anglo-Saxons, was liberated by the Scottish troops and annexed to the Kingdom of Scotland (then called Alba). In addition, I have added a Welsh language pronunciation, as it is likely that it was quite similar to the Gododdin language at the time.

Tales of Britain, a book by Jem Roberts. Get Tales of Britain Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Tales of Britain books, 77 timeless tales from up and down the length of Great Britain – Wales, Scotland, Kernow, England and the Isles – have been retold for the 21st century by curious storyteller Brother Bernard, with a tourist guide to the real location of each folktale included. This road atlas of myth and mischief allows us to visit famed heroes King Arthur, Merlin, Robin Hood, Lady Godiva, Macbeth, Dick Whittington and Jack, but also those who should be more celebrated, like Molly Whuppie, Bran the Blessed, Bladud, Taliesin and Tom Thumb. Since Britain became an island eight millennia ago, generations of immigrants have made their home here in Albion, creating their own stories, which have become part of the richly stocked treasury of British folklore. Some are strange, some are sad, some are exciting, some are scary, many are silly, and at least two are totally daft. Brother Bernard retells these restored tales with devotion to the ancient legends, but with a fresh eye and added anarchic vim to be enjoyed anew.

The English and Scottish Popular Ballads, a book by Francis James Child. Get The English and Scottish Popular Ballads Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download The English and Scottish Popular Ballads books, The rich field of English balladry was virgin territory before Francis James Child entered it. The few published ballad editions that existed were unreliable, filled with unacknowledged editorial changes and distortions of the original manuscripts. Professor Child compiled all the extant ballads with all known variants, and made them available for the first time — together with his invaluable commentary that prefaces each work — in a single source that maintained absolute fidelity to the original texts. Published between 1882 and 1898, the original ten-part study became the definitive collection of popular ballads in the English language, never to be superceded. To this day, scholars and devotees speak of "The Child Ballads" with the awe and respect generated by few other literary works. Volume 1: Parts I and II of the original set, ballads 1-53 including "Edward," "Lord Randal," "Tam Lin," "Lady Isabel and the Elf-Knight," "Earl Brand," "Thomas Rymer," more. Biographical sketch of Child by Prof. Kittredge, Child's portrait, additions and corrections.

Although many Pagans see the body and sexuality as sacred, Pagan communities still struggle with the reality of assault and abuse. To build consent culture, good consent practices must be embraced by communities, not just by individuals--and consent is about much more than sexuality. Consent culture begins with the idea of autonomy, with recognizing our right to control our bodies in all areas of life; and it is sustained by empathy, the ability to understand and share the emotional states of others.

Angela Carter and Folk Music, a book by Polly Paulusma. Get Angela Carter and Folk Music Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Angela Carter and Folk Music books, From her unique standpoint as singer-songwriter-scholar, Polly Paulusma examines the influences of Carter's 1960s folk singing, unknown until now, on her prose writing. Recent critical attention has focused on Carter's relationship with folk/fairy tales, but this book uses a newly available archive containing Carter's folk song notes, books, LPs and recordings to change the debate, proving Carter performed folk songs. Placing this archive alongside the album sleeve notes Carter wrote and her diaries and essays, it reimagines Carter's prose as a vehicle for the singing voice, and reveals a writing style imbued with 'songfulness' informed by her singing praxis. Reading Carter's texts through songs she knew and sang, this book shows, from influences of rhythm, melodic shape, thematic focus, imagery, 'voice' and 'breath', how Carter steeped her writing with folk song's features to produce 'canorography': song-infused prose. Concluding with a discussion of Carter's profound influence on songwriters, focusing on the author's interview with Emily Portman, this book invites us to reimagine Carter's prose as audial event, dissolving boundaries between prose and song, between text and reader, between word and sound, in an ever-renewing act of sympathetic resonance.

Young Tambling, a book by Kate Greenstreet,T. Zachary Cotler. Get Young Tambling Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Young Tambling books, Poetry. Art. Experimental Memoir. YOUNG TAMBLING resonates with Greenstreet's relentless exploration of what it means to be human, to need to feel, to make art. Memory, in this book of "experimental memoir," works something like the narrative tactics of a traditional ballad—"alternate leaping and lingering," in one formulation. Greenstreet does not dabble in teleological platitudes: the lives crosscutting these poems are not singular but plural and sublime, full of sacrifice and empathy for the lost. In YOUNG TAMBLING, a life's meaning is born of its poet's song, and a memory cannot reveal its truth until it finds its ballad. "For her fine, homemade metaphysics, smartly deadpan cosmology, and redemptive, lyrical humanity, Greenstreet is strictly essential reading." —Scott Wilkerson
