Six Days in August: The Story of Stockholm Syndrome, a book by David King. Get Six Days in August: The Story of Stockholm Syndrome Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Six Days in August: The Story of Stockholm Syndrome books, A rollicking account of the bizarre hostage drama that gave rise to the term "Stockholm syndrome." On the morning of August 23, 1973, a man wearing a wig, makeup, and a pair of sunglasses walked into the main branch of Sveriges Kreditbank, a prominent bank in central Stockholm. He ripped out a submachine gun, fired it into the ceiling, and shouted, "The party starts!" This was the beginning of a six-day hostage crisis—and media circus—that would mesmerize the world, drawing into its grip everyone from Sweden’s most notorious outlaw to the prime minister himself. As policemen and reporters encircled the bank, the crime-in-progress turned into a high-stakes thriller broadcast on live television. Inside the building, meanwhile, complicated emotional relationships developed between captors and captives that would launch a remarkable new concept into the realm of psychology, hostage negotiation, and popular culture. Based on a wealth of previously unpublished sources, including rare film footage and unprecedented access to the main participants, Six Days in August captures the surreal events in their entirety, on an almost minute-by-minute basis. It is a rich human drama that blurs the lines between loyalty and betrayal, obedience and defiance, fear and attraction—and a groundbreaking work of nonfiction that forces us to consider "Stockholm syndrome" in an entirely new light.

Captive Continent, a book by Philip Pilevsky. Get Captive Continent Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Captive Continent books, A provocative contribution to the international relations literature, Captive Continent argues that there has been a shift in Western European sympathies in recent years. According to Pilevsky, this shift has taken the form of either nationalistic neutralism or a pro-Soviet position on many significant issues. Further, Pilevsky contends, Western Europe's new distrust of its ally, the U.S., and its seeming trust of its enemy, the USSR, is analogous to hostage behavior as characterized by the Stockholm Syndrome--which posits that the effects of fear on an individual or group will often lead to an identification with that which is feared. Pilevsky's discussion of the Stockholm Syndrome and its relevance to Europe proceeds along two parallel paths. First, he clearly delineates the syndrome and explores its bearing on the current situation in Europe--a situation in which nominal allies of the U.S. often seem more ready to side with the USSR in policy disputes. According to the author, Western Europe is, in a profoundly psychological way, a captive of the Soviet Union. In this relationship, based on fear and dependence, Western Europe comes increasingly to identify with its captor at the expense of the U.S. The second focus of the discussion is the identification of Russia's active participation in a strategy to make Europe hostage. As Pilevsky demonstrates, recent events support his contention that the Soviet Union not only benefits from the Stockholm Syndrome, but continues to take steps to foster the hostage-captor relationship. In his conclusion, Pilevsky suggests ways for the U.S. to more successfully deal with its allies and makes 10 recommendations for NATO.

Stockholm Syndrome, a book by Julia Sanders. Get Stockholm Syndrome Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Stockholm Syndrome books, STOCKHOLM SYNDROME - Bonding with Captors: True Stories of a Psychological Phenomenon In the spring of 1998, a ten year old girl was abducted on her way to school by two men in Donaustadt, Vienna. She was held captive by a sexual predator for eight years before finally making a daring, impromptu escape from her makeshift prison in her captor's cellar. When she heard the news that her former captor had committed suicide, she mourned his loss as though she were grieving the death of an old friend. In the fall of 2001, a British journalist was captured by Islamic terrorists and held captive for eleven days at their compound in Afghanistan. During her ordeal, she rightly believed that any moment could be her last. Terrorist prisoners rarely ever see freedom again following their capture, so when they uncharacteristically agreed to release her from captivity, she immediately fled home without hesitation. Upon her arrival on home soil, she converted from Christianity to Islam as a way to honour those who held her hostage. These bizarre instances, whilst rare, are a psychological phenomenon known as Stockholm syndrome. It is a trope we've seen in movies and TV shows a thousand times before. A beautiful women will be taken prisoner by hostile forces, only for a genuine affection between hostage and captor to manifest. Usually, there is an underlying narrative in these types of stories which always result in good triumphing over evil, perhaps in the form of the hostile captor seeing the error of his ways and setting his prisoner free. Or, in some stories, the hostage is simply manipulating their captor in order to aid their eventual escape. However, the reality of these circumstances is never quite so simple.

Download Stockholm Syndrome books, Set in Chapel, Utah, Stockholm Syndrome follows the lives of four aspiring musicians and their muse, who does as much harm as she does good for the band. Hunter, Michael, James and Brandt make up another garage band, spending their bored winter days writing and practicing songs. At the same time, Abby Callahan, the beautiful sociopath and love interest for most of the band, runs away from her wealthy Mormon family in search of entertainment and the atypical, without concern for who she hurts along the way. When Brandt, the band's talented frontman, ends up dead in a dingy drug house garage, the rest of the guys realize Chapel has less than nothing to offer. The group sets out for New York in hopes of making it. Abby maintains a relationship with both Hunter and Michael, refusing to choose between the two. Hundreds of miles into the road trip, tempers and tensions get the best of them. James persuades Hunter that he is better off without Abby. Michael, on the other hand, feels he should have stayed at home in Chapel instead of chasing impossible dreams across the country. With splintering motivations and dimetrically opposed ideals, the end of the band and the dream seems inevitable. Yet happiness takes different forms for different people and the finale of the book echoes Thackeray: "Who, having what he truly desires, is evber truly happy?"

Social Unconscious, a book by Adão José Gonçalves Da Cruz. Get Social Unconscious Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Social Unconscious books, Stockholm syndrome is the name attributed to the particular psychological condition in which someone, when subjected to prolonged time of intimidation, becomes sympathetic and even befriended or idolatrous by his or her aggressor. There is also a strong possibility, largely considered, that for some people, victims of similar harassment, may develop some unconscious mechanism of defense, in an attempt to project affective feelings in the figure of the kidnapper or abuser, because they can soften or relax some kind of negotiation or agreement between the victim/aggressor relationship in an attempt to reduce tension, during and after the experiences between those involved. The reader will be able to understand the deep complexes generated in the social unconscious, based on the analysis of C. G. Jung in "Aspects of Contemporary Drama". It must be observed that all human beings have two realities and the judgment of reality is the ability to distinguish between internal reality and external reality. In the 21st century, it seems that many Brazilian leaders and politicians have not yet developed the judgment of reality; therefore, they do not distinguish the internal reality from the external reality, that is, they do not see their own reality or the reality of Brazilian citizens. On the other hand, in order for the reader to evaluate the veracity of Stockholm syndrome in the Brazilian political scene, the author presents videos of reports and copies of official documents of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and the Supreme Federal Court (STF) of Brazil. It shows the political maneuvers of the Supreme Court, which ordered the release of numerous defendants convicted of "Operation Lava Jato", so that these defendants can run from the 2022 elections. The videos and documents presented are so that the reader can evaluate this and other decisions, as well as the unconstitutional agreements made with the national congress (CN). All these events have as a "backdrop" the COVID-19 pandemic, while the health and freedom of expression of the Brazilian people are used as a political game.

Sparks flies and emotions run high, but what will Mia do when faced with an impossible decision? Go back to her kidnapper who can crumble every barrier of resistance in her veins and bring her to new heights of pleasure, or stay with the man who loves her? ~~~~~ Excerpt ~~~~~ The door opened and I turned from the window to stare at the man coming in, my heart sinking at the image before me. He was nothing like what I had imagined. Instead of an obese, balding old man, the man who walked in was devilishly handsome. His light blue shirt was fitted, the thick muscles on his chest and arms contracting as he walked towards me. I moved towards him, extending my hand. A practiced smile was on my lips as I watched his dark blue eyes move from my face to my toes, focusing on my breasts for a moment longer than necessary before looking back up. "I'm Mia." He moved around me and I turned, walking towards the chair and hoping I'd make it before my legs gave out. My knees shook slightly as my heart beat wildly in my chest. I was not prepared to meet someone who looked so much like the man who kidnapped me. The scent of his cologne lingered in the air and I breathed it in deeply, coveting it. He even had the same masculine scent that could disintegrate panties. I sat down, interlinking my fingers on my lap. I wanted to jump n and start the conversation but he was staring at me with an expression that hinted he had something to say. "Your resume says you've had no job experience before?" he asked. "No, sir," I murmured demurely. "And you graduated with an Arts Degree?" "Yes, sir." "Mia. You and I both know the only reason you're here is because of your looks," he said, raising an eyebrow. This was embarrassing. Or it would've been if the qualifications weren't faked. I tried to look insulted. "I passed the online examination with almost full points," I defended. I had sat in front of worse interrogators. He was nothing. "Then you must be really smart," he said. Something about his gaze made me feel as if I was nude. I gulped. My mind raced for the most appropriate answer. "Yes," I whispered, my voice hiding from me. What was wrong with me? I could do better than that. "I scored better than 99% of the other candidates, which allowed me to skip two stages of interviews and brought me straight to you," I said. He turned his gaze towards me and I held my breath. My chest was screaming for air. "Hold that thought," he said, his attention diverted to the blinking light in the phone. He turned his back towards me and I let go of the breath I didn't realize I had been holding the entire time. I waited for him to leave the room to have his conversation. To my surprise, he merely walked to the window to walk. "I know you have a meeting tonight, but I've made us reservations at King's Diner," he said, sounding irate he even had to say it in the first place. I made mental notes about the interruption in my report. It was fortunate that I decided to wear a wire under my shirt today. I doubt the client would believe me if they didn't listen to the conversation themselves. I glanced up and inhaled sharply when I realized that his eyes were on me as he spoke. "Wear the red sequin dress I bought you last month. Yes, the one that you thought was too low." His predatory gaze made my skin break out in goosebumps. I averted my eyes toward the window, needing some air back into my lungs. "No underwear," he said suddenly, making me jump in my seat. My head snapped forward, eyes wide as the man simply stared at me. His expression was hard and threatening, as if he was talking to me. I crossed my legs, feeling a tightness grow between them.

Susceptibility and the Stockholm Syndrome, a book by Karina S. Cabrera. Get Susceptibility and the Stockholm Syndrome Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Susceptibility and the Stockholm Syndrome books, This thesis intends to explore the relationship between three specific types of abuse and their susceptibility to developing Stockholm syndrome. Stockholm syndrome is the psychological phenomenon of a victim empathizing with their abuser. It can occur under various types of abuse, such as captivity, domestic violence with a partner, and child sexual abuse. A thorough literature review was conducted on the topic to determine which type of abuse makes a person more susceptible to developing the syndrome. It was concluded that the circumstances involved in child sexual abuse make a victim more inclined to sympathize with their abuser. By understanding the intensity of a victim's situation, clinicians can properly sculpt their treatment methods. The lack of research comparing types of abuse and their corresponding effects provides an impetus for future studies to explore this topic. A mixed-mode study is proposed as an alternative method of measuring the researcher’s hypothesis.

The Times-Picayune "But for all the talk about immersion, maybe the most important piece for an audience member to feel immersed in is thematic. And that's what I enjoyed most about the show. At the heart of STOCKHOLM SYNDROME is a group of characters who look at their lives at some point in the show and realize they're not totally happy with how things are going. Worse yet, they don't even understand how their lives got to this level of disappointment. A server who sings about the dissatisfaction of every day being exactly the same as the last. A diner who doesn't have her needs fulfilled by her husband. A manager whose dedication and loyalty frequently lead to letdowns and heartbreak. A woman who wants a man with more ambition. And a man who just wants a woman to go home and hold hands with. This story is full of realizations of life-gone-astray, and that's a realization most of us can relate to at at least one point or another." Very Local

Download Stockholm Syndrome in a Relationship books, Emotionally broken. Mentally drained. Anxiety riddled and devoid of hope. The trauma bond that ties you to your abuser seems unbreakable. Stockholm syndrome, otherwise known as trauma bonding, is a powerful yet poisonous emotional symptom of a toxic relationship. We are treated horrifically by our partner, yet we find ourselves doing everything in our power to maintain the relationship. We are frequently lied to, manipulated, called names, and often physically abused. Still, a life without our abuser isn't something we can bear to imagine. Do we know we're being treated abhorrently? Yes. Does it hurt like nothing else in the world? Yes. Do we actively try to cling to the relationship and make it work? Also, yes. These are symptoms of Stockholm syndrome. But, it doesn't need to be this way. The bond can be broken. I've endured the depths of an abusive relationship, and found myself chained to my abuser by the invisible - but incredibly tight - handcuffs of Stockholm syndrome. Despite many attempts at leaving only to return in the hope things would change, I couldn't seem to tear myself away from the very relationship that was eroding my self-esteem and my sanity. But, it can be done. In this book, I'll use my own thirteen-year long story and the lessons I've learned along the way to guide you through breaking the trauma bond: - I'll explain the cycle of abuse and how the abuser works to keep us repeating the cycle - I'll cover the reasons we stay in a toxic relationship, other than just love and the deep emotional attachment we have - I'll explain the PTSD symptoms we're prone to suffer as a result of the trauma of abuse - I'll help you unlearn learned helplessness - And, I'll discuss breaking the trauma bond and emotioanlydealing with the aftermath Even if you think the bond is unbreakable, or you can't imagine willfully breaking the invisible chains, knowing more about the attachment to your abuser puts you in a better position to free yourself. This book, created through years of first-hand experience and subsequent research, is for those enduring manipulative, hurtful abuse at the hands of their partner. If you feel like you're stuck and you couldn't ever leave your abuser, this book is for you.

Download Stockholm Syndrome Reversal books, As a time traveler, I would return to the setting in this book: Bolinas in the 1960's would be my chose. This a real tiny village on a strip of sand and rocky bluffs, 54 miles from San Francisco. It has an atmosphere of a quiet seaside town. It is like Bodego Bay in Hitchecock's Movie: The Birds. This town is hippie, and not at all pretentious and has sturdy sea side houses and an intelligence of rich, old hippies who live quiet lives and do not especially like visitors. Directional signs are torn down and not too many business in this tiny town, precariously hanging on the bluffs over the Pacific Ocean. This is the setting of a strange tale of a psychiatrist who kidnaps a beautiful women and she does what any genius of a woman does, she changes him into her liking. There is murders and love and sex and kindness and compassion. Also a look at the wonderful nature of that area of a huge Federal Park and sea life and life in Paradise. The book has many pictures picked to enhance the plot. It is hard to describe the type of book as it is wishful thinking of what a man who is cold and abused and how he turns into a compassionate human being.

The third is a thirteen-year-old girl who also knows little about the world; she is kidnapped from a Southern Utah polygamist community. The three youths cling together as they learn about life, belief, and sexuality. The tragic ending is surprising and shocking, but logical given the situation.

Download The Stockholm Syndrome President books, DOING THE TERRORIST'S WORK FOR THEM Forensic psychiatrist and profiler Andrew Hodges dramatically unveils Barack Obama's secret confession that he is an unconscious Stockholm Syndrome victim controlled by radical Islam. This explains his repeated capitulations to radical Islam and his curious refusal to use that term. Dr. Hodges shows readers how he unearths the truth by decoding "thoughtprints"-symbolic messages from a brilliantly perceptive and communicative unconscious which he calls the "super intelligence." By studying Obama's own words, in this case speeches delivered on June 12 and 14, 2016, Hodges tells us what he is really saying between the lines. Those psycholinguistic messages include: * His terrifying father, a Muslim from Kenya, radicalized his son as a child. * He's now controlled by the forces of radical Islam, in essence "doing the terrorists' work for them." * His Stockholm Syndrome symptoms extended to his eventual swearing-in as an illegal president. * Secretly, he wants to stop violating the Constitution, so he confessed to the one man who he unconsciously knows can free him-Donald Trump, who unknowingly triggered Obama to express his deepest frailties. * He presents major vulnerabilities around two birth certificate matters which he guides us to pursue. * Super-intel confessions of elite journalists show they also have picked up on the secret story and realize their grievous failure to investigate Obama's illegal presidency, his fundamental assault on America's most basic foundation. * He knows America is on a precipice, but Obama himself shows us the way off of it-either restore the rule of law...or perish.

While he agrees that the letters are more than harmless fan mail, he finds it impossible to narrow down his suspicions and Bryan isn't helping by alternately seducing and irritating the hell out of him. Against his better judgement, Dan falls for Bryan's manipulations, but the more he gets to glimpse behind the façade of the young actor, the more he realises that something in Bryan's past has a strong hold over him. While both Dan and Bryan are aware of this, neither sees the full extent of his fixation. With the help of Gabe, a fellow bodyguard and friend, Dan pursues different theories and even hires a private investigator to learn about Bryan's well-hidden past. What he discovers has the potential to destroy more than just a promising career, and in the end, Bryan has to make a choice-allow for his past fixation to take him hostage again or run away and into Dan's open arms?

Loving to Survive, a book by Dee L.R. Graham. Get Loving to Survive Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Loving to Survive books, Have you wondered: Why women are more sympathetic than men toward O. J. Simpson? Why women were no more supportive of the Equal Rights Amendment than men? Why women are no more likely than men to support a female political candidate? Why women are no more likely than men to embrace feminism--a movement by, about, and for women? Why some women stay with men who abuse them? Loving to Survive addresses just these issues and poses a surprising answer. Likening women's situation to that of hostages, Dee L. R. Graham and her co- authors argue that women bond with men and adopt men's perspective in an effort to escape the threat of men's violence against them. Dee Graham's announcement, in 1991, of her research on male-female bonding was immediately followed by a national firestorm of media interest. Her startling and provocative conclusion was covered in dozens of national newspapers and heatedly debated. In Loving to Survive, Graham provides us with a complete account of her remarkable insights into relationships between men and women. In 1973, three women and one man were held hostage in one of the largest banks in Stockholm by two ex-convicts. These two men threatened their lives, but also showed them kindness. Over the course of the long ordeal, the hostages came to identify with their captors, developing an emotional bond with them. They began to perceive the police, their prospective liberators, as their enemies, and their captors as their friends, as a source of security. This seemingly bizarre reaction to captivity, in which the hostages and captors mutually bond to one another, has been documented in other cases as well, and has become widely known as Stockholm Syndrome. The authors of this book take this syndrome as their starting point to develop a new way of looking at male-female relationships. Loving to Survive considers men's violence against women as crucial to understanding women's current psychology. Men's violence creates ever-present, and therefore often unrecognized, terror in women. This terror is often experienced as a fear for any woman of rape by any man or as a fear of making any man angry. They propose that women's current psychology is actually a psychology of women under conditions of captivitythat is, under conditions of terror caused by male violence against women. Therefore, women's responses to men, and to male violence, resemble hostages' responses to captors. Loving to Survive explores women's bonding to men as it relates to men's violence against women. It proposes that, like hostages who work to placate their captors lest they kill them, women work to please men, and from this springs women's femininity. Femininity describes a set of behaviors that please men because they communicate a woman's acceptance of her subordinate status. Thus, feminine behaviors are, in essence, survival strategies. Like hostages who bond to their captors, women bond to men in an effort to survive. This is a book that will forever change the way we look at male-female relationships and women's lives.

Killer Cure, a book by Elizabeth L. Bewley. Get Killer Cure Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Killer Cure books, Killer Cure will change forever how you think about your health and health care. Leaving conventional wisdom in the dust, Killer Cure reveals startling and unforgettable insights: Why health care in America accidentally kills 12,000 people each week -- even though every doctor and nurse you know is terrific Why health care's hidden assumptions about you are almost certain to damage your health -- and what you can do about it Why health care's focus on solving yesterday's problems may reduce life expectancy in the U.S. -- by as much as five years Why you might want to become CEO of your own health and health care -- and how to go about it The root cause of America's health care crisis is that health care is not about you. Health care is not designed to help you enjoy good health. It is designed to help doctors take action: write prescriptions, perform surgery, etc. That focus hurts you in two ways: First, those actions are likely to damage you nearly as often as they help you because of side effects, complications, and other problems with care delivery. For example, hospital ICUs (Intensive Care Units) have a remarkable number of characteristics in common with prison camps for terrorist suspects. People die needless deaths as a result. Second, the focus on actions the doctor takes crowds out actions you could take that would often get you better outcomes. For example, more than 100,000 people a year get a foot or leg amputated instead of learning simple ways to prevent foot infections in the first place. To get better results, the health care system first needs to embrace a new purpose: to enable people to lead the lives they want. Three further changes are necessary: The first is a social revolution akin to freeing the slaves or granting women the right to vote. With this revolution, the health care system will no longer treat the people it serves as if they were second-class citizens whose intelligence, values, priorities, and needs can safely be ignored while others call the shots. The second is more realistic expectations about what health care can deliver. The third is management of health care as a process -- connecting the dots among actions that are uncoordinated today. Killer Cure provides a tool kit to help you safeguard your life until these changes take place. Before closing, the book makes surprising predictions concerning a future in which health care is about you. At the end of Killer Cure is a Readers' Discussion Guide. It is offered to aid you in thinking about and discussing both the book and your own health care experiences."

"I've been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I don't know the colour of her eyes or what they look like when she's scared. But I will." Born to a prominent Chicago judge and his stifled socialite wife, Mia Dennett moves against the grain as a young inner–city art teacher. One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on–again, off–again boyfriend. When he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, at first Colin Thatcher seems like a safe one–night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life. Mia soon finds herself at the centre of a wild extortion plot. Colin's job was to abduct Mia and deliver her to his employers. But the plan takes an unexpected turn when Colin suddenly decides to hide Mia in a secluded cabin in rural Minnesota, evading the police and his deadly superiors. Mia's mother, Eve, and Detective Gabe Hoffman will stop at nothing to find them, but no one could have predicted the emotional entanglements that eventually cause this family's world to shatter. An addictively suspenseful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a compulsive debut that reveals how even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems... “Psychologically rich and pulse pounding, The Good Girl had me hooked from the very first sentence and didn't let go until the final word.” – Heather Gudenkauf, bestselling author of The Weight of Silence and Little Mercies
