Oddjobs, a book by Heide Goody,Iain Grant. Get Oddjobs Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Oddjobs books, It's the end of the world as we know it, but someone still needs to do the paperwork. Incomprehensible horrors from beyond are going to devour our world but that's no excuse to get all emotional about it. Morag Murray works for the secret government organisation responsible for making sure the apocalypse goes as smoothly and as quietly as possible. In her first week on the job, Morag has to hunt down a man-eating starfish, solve a supernatural murder and, if she's got time, prevent her own inevitable death. The first book in a new comedy series by the creators of 'Clovenhoof', Oddjobs is a sideswipe at the world of work and a fantastical adventure featuring amphibian wannabe gangstas, mad old cat ladies, ancient gods, apocalyptic scrabble, fish porn, telepathic curry and, possibly, the end of the world before the weekend.

Odd Jobs, a book by John Updike. Get Odd Jobs Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Odd Jobs books, To complement his work as a fiction writer, John Updike accepted any number of odd jobs—book reviews and introductions, speeches and tributes, a “few paragraphs” on baseball or beauty or Borges—and saw each as “an opportunity to learn something, or to extract from within some unsuspected wisdom.” In this, his largest collection of assorted prose, he brings generosity and insight to the works and lives of William Dean Howells, George Bernard Shaw, Philip Roth, Muriel Spark, and dozens more. Novels from outposts of postmodernism like Turkey, Albania, Israel, and Nigeria are reviewed, as are biographies of Cleopatra and Dorothy Parker. The more than a hundred considerations of books are flanked, on one side, by short stories, a playlet, and personal essays, and, on the other, by essays on his own oeuvre. Updike’s odd jobs would be any other writer’s chief work.

Odd Jobs, a book by Jonathan Krieger. Get Odd Jobs Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Odd Jobs books, Jonathan Krieger was a few years out of college, making his living playing online poker, when the US Department of Justice shut the industry down. Unemployed and in debt, he did what any twenty-something in 2011 would do: He started a blog. Specifically, a blog about his new life trying to earn money any way he could. He tested landmine detection technology, delivered singing telegrams, sold his blood, posed as one half of a conjoined twin, auditioned for a gameshow, and, perhaps most harrowing of all, became a substitute teacher. Odd Jobs weaves together tales from the blog with the story of Krieger's life as he struggled to crawl out of the financial abyss and find the one job he might actually want to keep.

Odd Jobs, a book by Tony Duvert. Get Odd Jobs Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Odd Jobs books, This series of 23 satirically scabrous short texts introduces the reader to an imaginary French suburb via the strange, grotesque small-town occupations that defined a once reliable, now presumably vanished way of life. A catalog of job descriptions that range from the disgusting functions of "The Snot-Remover" and "The Wiper" to the shockingly cruel dramas enacted by "The Skinner" and "The Snowman," Odd Jobs evinces an outrageous, uncomfortable and savage sense of humor. Through these narratives somewhere between parody and prose poem, Duvert assaults parenthood, priesthood and neighborhood in this mock handbook to suburban living: Leave It to Beaver as written by William Burroughs. Tony Duvert (1945-2008) earned a reputation as the "enfant terrible" of the generation of French authors known for defining the postwar Nouveau Roman. Expelled from school at the age of 12 for homosexuality (and then put through a psychoanalytic "cure" for his condition), Duvert declared war on family life and societal norms through a controversial series of novels and essays (whose frequent controversial depictions of child sexuality and pedophilia often led his publisher to sell his works by subscription only). He won the Prix Medicis in 1973 for his novel Strange Landscape. His reputation faded in the 1980s, however, and he withdrew from society. He died in 2008.

Clovenhoof, a book by Iain Grant,Heide Goody. Get Clovenhoof Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Clovenhoof books, Charged with gross incompetence, Satan is fired from his job as Prince of Hell and exiled to that most terrible of places: English suburbia. Forced to live as a human under the name of Jeremy Clovenhoof, the dark lord not only has to contend with the fact that no one recognises him or gives him the credit he deserves but also has to put up with the bookish wargamer next door and the voracious man-eater upstairs. Heaven, Hell and the city of Birmingham collide in a story that features murder, heavy metal, cannibalism, armed robbers, devious old ladies, Satanists who live with their mums, gentlemen of limited stature, dead vicars, petty archangels, flamethrowers, sex dolls, a blood-soaked school assembly and way too much alcohol. Clovenhoof is outrageous and irreverent (and laugh out loud funny!) but it is also filled with huge warmth and humanity. Written by first-time collaborators Heide Goody and Iain Grant, Clovenhoof will have you rooting for the bad guy like never before.

Odd Jobs, a book by Roger Treagus. Get Odd Jobs Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Odd Jobs books, Odd Jobs is a kaleidoscope of experiences that make up the story of a weird and wonderful career. Roger Treagus could not have imagined what lay ahead when he took on his first job as a printer's assistant. What followed was more of a wild ride than what is normally taken for a career. Roger became a postman, gardener, photographer, spy, weatherman and lighthouse inspector just for starters, never really knowing what would be next. The story is not just about the jobs, as each came with its own assortment of fascinating characters with their own stories to tell. We meet ancient bushmen, then World Bank Executives, to pipe-smoking First-Nation elders advising on caribou migrations and the fiery Chilean captain of a doomed ship. The account ends with an unsolved mystery posed as yet another work adventure.

Download A Fairy Tale books, In a Europe without borders, where social norms have become fragile, a son must confront the sins of his father and grandfather, and invent new strategies for survival A young boy grows up with a loving father who has little respect for the law. They are always on the run, and as they move from place to place, the boy is often distraught to leave behind new friendships. Because it would be dicey for him to go to school, his anarchistic father gives him an unconventional education intended to contradict as much as possible the teachings of his own father, a preacher and a pervert. Ten years later, when the boy is entering adulthood, with a fake name and a monotonous job, he tries to conform to the demands of ordinary life, but the lessons of the past thwart his efforts, and questions about his father’s childhood cannot be left unanswered. Spanning the mid-1980s to early-twenty-first-century in Copenhagen, this coming-of-age novel examines what it means to be a stranger in the modern world, and how, for better or for worse, a father’s legacy is never passed on in any predictable fashion.

A Patchwork Planet, a book by Anne Tyler. Get A Patchwork Planet Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download A Patchwork Planet books, In this New York Times Notable Book, Tyler tells the story of a lovable loser who's trying to get his life in order. Barnaby Gaitlin has been in trouble ever since adolescence. He had this habit of breaking into other people's houses. It wasn't the big loot he was after, like his teenage cohorts. It was just that he liked to read other people's mail, pore over their family photo albums, and appropriate a few of their precious mementos. But for eleven years now, he's been working steadily for Rent-a-Back, renting his back to old folks and shut-ins who can't move their own porch furniture or bring the Christmas tree down from the attic. At last, his life seems to be on an even keel. Still, the Gaitlins (of "old" Baltimore) cannot forget the price they paid for buying off Barnaby's former victims. And his ex-wife would just as soon he didn't show up ever to visit their little girl, Opal. Even the nice, steady woman (his guardian angel?) who seems to have designs on him doesn't fully trust him, it develops, when the chips are down, and it looks as though his world may fall apart again. There is no one like Anne Tyler, with her sharp, funny, tender perceptions about how human beings navigate on a puzzling planet, and she keeps us enthralled from start to finish in this delicious new novel.

Download Barbarian Days books, **Winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Autobiography** Included in President Obama’s 2016 Summer Reading List “Without a doubt, the finest surf book I’ve ever read . . . ” —The New York Times Magazine Barbarian Days is William Finnegan’s memoir of an obsession, a complex enchantment. Surfing only looks like a sport. To initiates, it is something else: a beautiful addiction, a demanding course of study, a morally dangerous pastime, a way of life. Raised in California and Hawaii, Finnegan started surfing as a child. He has chased waves all over the world, wandering for years through the South Pacific, Australia, Asia, Africa. A bookish boy, and then an excessively adventurous young man, he went on to become a distinguished writer and war reporter. Barbarian Days takes us deep into unfamiliar worlds, some of them right under our noses—off the coasts of New York and San Francisco. It immerses the reader in the edgy camaraderie of close male friendships forged in challenging waves. Finnegan shares stories of life in a whites-only gang in a tough school in Honolulu. He shows us a world turned upside down for kids and adults alike by the social upheavals of the 1960s. He details the intricacies of famous waves and his own apprenticeships to them. Youthful folly—he drops LSD while riding huge Honolua Bay, on Maui—is served up with rueful humor. As Finnegan’s travels take him ever farther afield, he discovers the picturesque simplicity of a Samoan fishing village, dissects the sexual politics of Tongan interactions with Americans and Japanese, and navigates the Indonesian black market while nearly succumbing to malaria. Throughout, he surfs, carrying readers with him on rides of harrowing, unprecedented lucidity. Barbarian Days is an old-school adventure story, an intellectual autobiography, a social history, a literary road movie, and an extraordinary exploration of the gradual mastering of an exacting, little-understood art.

After losing both her parents, Zorrie moved in with her aunt, whose own death orphaned Zorrie all over again, casting her off into the perilous realities and sublime landscapes of rural, Depression-era Indiana. Drifting west, Zorrie survived on odd jobs, sleeping in barns and under the stars, before finding a position at a radium processing plant. At the end of each day, the girls at her factory glowed from the radioactive material. But when Indiana calls Zorrie home, she finally finds the love and community that have eluded her in and around the small town of Hillisburg. And yet, even as she tries to build a new life, Zorrie discovers that her trials have only begun. Spanning an entire lifetime, a life convulsed and transformed by the events of the 20th century, Laird Hunt's extraordinary novel offers a profound and intimate portrait of the dreams that propel one tenacious woman onward and the losses that she cannot outrun. Set against a harsh, gorgeous, quintessentially American landscape, this is a deeply empathetic and poetic novel that belongs on a shelf with the classics of Willa Cather, Marilynne Robinson, and Elizabeth Strout.

Download The Book of Illusions books, A man's obsession with a silent-film star sends him on a journey into a shadow world of lies, illusions, and unexpected love Six months after losing his wife and two young sons in an airplane crash, Vermont professor David Zimmer spends his waking hours mired in a blur of alcoholic grief and self-pity. Then, watching television one night, he stumbles upon a clip from a lost silent film by comedian Hector Mann. Zimmer's interest is piqued, and he soon finds himself embarking on a journey around the world to research a book on this mysterious figure, who vanished from sight in 1929 and has been presumed dead for sixty years. When the book is published the following year, a letter turns up in Zimmer's mailbox bearing a return address from a small town in New Mexico-supposedly written by Hector's wife. "Hector has read your book and would like to meet you. Are you interested in paying us a visit?" Is the letter a hoax, or is Hector Mann still alive? Torn between doubt and belief, Zimmer hesitates, until one night a strange woman appears on his doorstep and makes the decision for him, changing his life forever. This stunning novel plunges the reader into a universe in which the comic and the tragic, the real and the imagined, the violent and the tender dissolve into one another. With The Book of Illusions, one of America's most powerful and original writers has written his richest, most emotionally charged work yet.

Odd-Jobs, a book by Timothy A. Boling. Get Odd-Jobs Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Odd-Jobs books, Meet Nick Stone. The highlight of Nick's day had always been smoking Jane, drinking beer, and causing trouble. Usually all at the same time. But that all changed when Dad woke up with a dead stripper in his bed. This story promises to offend you, insult you and entertain you, all at the same time. In Odd-Jobs, the author holds blatant contempt for literary merit, and the result comes off a little like Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. WARNING: This short novel is not recommended for those who can't take a joke. In this novel, you will find references to guns, drugs, felony crimes and a dead stripper named Sally. You will also find stereotypes toward minorities, and urban youth in-general. You will also find the works of an author who doesn't give a rat's ass about "Literary Value" and who uses Odd-Jobs, his very first novel, to mock the literary community. So in short, if Odd-Jobs doesn't offend you in the first ten pages, then you're probably just as morbid and twisted as the author.

A modern tale of movie magic in the wrong hands: the Big Lebowski meets Elmore Leonard’s niece. When Marty Drysdale first meets Chick, a member of the Canadian Mounties, he has an ounce of marijuana in the backseat of the limo he’s driving and a breaking-and-entering offense on his record. He escapes that first meeting with a traffic ticket and a major crush on “Officer Beautiful.” After just a month of knowing her, Marty proposes, and against all odds, she agrees. But Chick grows frustrated with Marty’s laziness and oddities. One night, coming home from his latest job as a projectionist, Marty crashes his Flxible Flxette limousine. In the shower of sparks, glass, and twisted metal, he has an epiphany: he will make his own movie and prove to Chick that he’s a man worth having. It isn’t long, however, before Marty’s hair-brained script—the copy-cat cat burglars—makes him the target of angry investors, the police, and other unintended victims of his latest scheme. He’ll have a lot of explaining to do if he wants to get out of this mess and keep the woman of his dreams in Odd Jobs.
