Marked, a book by P. C. Cast,Kristin Cast. Get Marked Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Marked books, Enter the dark, magical world of the House of Night series by bestselling authors P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast, a world very much like our own, except here vampyres have always existed. One minute, sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird is a normal teenager dealing with everyday high school stress: her cute boyfriend Heath, the school's star quarterback who suddenly seems more interested in partying than playing ball; her nosy frenemy Kayla, who's way too concerned with how things are going with Heath; her uber-tough geometry test tomorrow. The next, she's Marked as a fledgling vampyre, forcing her to leave her ordinary life behind and join the House of Night, a boarding school where she will train to become an adult vampyre. That is, if she makes it through the Change—and not all of those who are Marked do. It sucks to begin a new life, especially away from her friends, and on top of that, Zoey is no average fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. Zoey discovers she has amazing powers, but along with her powers come bloodlust and an unfortunate ability to Imprint with Heath, who just doesn't know how to take "no" for an answer. To add to her stress, she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers: when she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite group, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny—with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

Some, such as Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn see the closer companionship as beneficial. But not everyone is convinced. A group of radical humans is seeking to usurp land through a series of violent attacks on the Others. What they don’t realize is that there are older and more dangerous forces than shifters and vampires protecting the land—and those forces are willing to do whatever is necessary to safeguard what is theirs...

Marked Men, a book by Sally Robinson. Get Marked Men Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Marked Men books, White men still hold most of the political and economic cards in the United States; yet stories about wounded and traumatized men dominate popular culture. Why are white men jumping on the victim bandwagon? Examining novels by Philip Roth, John Updike, James Dickey, John Irving, and Pat Conroy and such films as Deliverance, Misery, and Dead Poets Society -- as well as other writings, including The Closing of the American Mind -- Sally Robinson argues that white men are tempted by the possibilities of pain and the surprisingly pleasurable tensions that come from living in crisis.

Marked City, a book by Sylvia Day. Get Marked City Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Marked City books, From the #1 Sunday Times bestselling author Sylvia Day (writing as S. J. Day) comes the Marked series, starting with Eve of Darkness. This urban fantasy series follows Evangeline Hollis, a heavenly bounty hunter, who's cursed by God, hunted by demons, and desired by none other than Cain and Abel. Uncontrollable bloodlust, dark and sexy desires, disasters of biblical proportions… S. J. Day's epic series has it all and is not to be missed. Eve of Darkness — Years ago, Evangeline Hollis spent a blistering night with a darkly seductive man she can't forget. Now Eve is thrust into a world where sinners are marked and drafted to kill demons. Her former one-night stand, Cain, is now her mentor—and his equally sexy brother Abel is her new boss. Eve of Destruction — When Eve's training class takes a field trip to an abandoned military base, things take a dark turn. Meanwhile, her body is still adapting to her new abilities and the challenges that came with them—such as uncontrollable bloodlust…which seems to be inciting another kind of lust altogether. Eve of Chaos — Eve runs over Satan's hellhound during training, so he puts a bounty on her head, and every demon in the country wants to deliver. Meanwhile, as Cain's role in Eve's life becomes more and more uncertain, Abel doesn't hesitate to step in. Eve of Warfare — Eve knows when she's being used as a pawn in the celestial political game. Now, she just has to figure out who's the greater threat: the vampire she's hunting, the cherub yanking her chain, or the two brothers vying to play the role of her spouse—'til death do them part. Which in her line of work, could happen any minute… Eve of Sin City — Sin City—Las Vegas—is home to humans and Infernals of all sorts: the good, the bad, and the ugly. If you ask Evangeline Hollis, "good" is in short supply, "ugly" might be amusing, but "bad" is most definitely her business.

Marked Women, a book by Rebecca G. Martínez. Get Marked Women Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Marked Women books, Cervical cancer is the third leading cause of death among women in Venezuela, with poor and working-class women bearing the brunt of it. Doctors and public health officials regard promiscuity and poor hygiene—coded indicators for low class, low culture, and bad morals—as risk factors for the disease. Drawing on in-depth fieldwork conducted in two oncology hospitals in Caracas, Marked Women is an ethnography of women's experiences with cervical cancer, the doctors and nurses who treat them, and the public health officials and administrators who set up intervention programs to combat the disease. Rebecca G. Martínez contextualizes patient-doctor interactions within a historical arc of Venezuelan nationalism, modernity, neoliberalism, and Chavismo to understand the scientific, social, and political discourses surrounding the disease. The women, marked as deviant for their sexual transgressions, are not only characterized as engaging in unhygienic, uncultured, and promiscuous behaviors, but also become embodiments of these very behaviors. Ultimately, Marked Women explores how epidemiological risk is a socially, culturally, and historically embedded process—and how this enables cervical cancer to stigmatize women as socially marginal, burdens on society, and threats to the "health" of the modern nation.

A Marked Peculiarity, a book by Charles Bachman. Get A Marked Peculiarity Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download A Marked Peculiarity books, Including traditional forms such as structured quatrain, sonnet, and terza rima, as well as free verse, these evocative, fresh and often outrageously humorous poems have a powerful and effective rhythm reflecting Bachman's background singing many leading roles in operas and musicals; their vividly metaphoric explorations of the great death-rebirth cycles of nature from delicate re-seeding of flowers to mountain crags and massive floes of ice on the Niagara River, reflect his love of both gardening and hiking/mountain climbing; his section on personal memories, including growing up in Iowa, express both tragedy and a gentle, kind humor for people he has known; and the many poems of fantasy and exploration of the bizarre corners of the psyche frequently shatter any safe, comfortable boundaries, leading the reader into strange, fascinating country reflecting Bachman's unique, highly unusual vision. We have here a masterful, accomplished, highly individual poet at the peak of his powers who obviously believes the reader deserves vivid explorations, including fun and adventure--which this book provides in abundance.

Download Non-Canonically Case-Marked Subjects books, Interest in non-canonically case-marked subjects has been unceasing since the groundbreaking work of Andrews and Masica in the late 70’s who were the first to document the existence of syntactic subjects in another morphological case than the nominative. Their research was focused on Icelandic and South-Asian languages, respectively, and since then, oblique subjects have been reported for language after language throughout the world. This newfangled recognition of the concept of oblique subjects at the time was followed by discussions of the role and validity of subject tests, discussions of the verbal semantics involved, as well as discussions of the theoretical implications of this case marking strategy of syntactic subjects. This volume contributes to all these debates, making available research articles on different languages and language families, additionally highlighting issues like language contact, differential subject marking and the origin of oblique subjects.

Marked in Your Flesh, a book by Leonard B. Glick. Get Marked in Your Flesh Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Marked in Your Flesh books, The book of Genesis tells us that God made a covenant with Abraham, promising him a glorious posterity on the condition that he and all his male descendents must be circumcised. For thousands of years thereafter, the distinctive practice of circumcision served to set the Jews apart from their neighbors. The apostle Paul rejected it as a worthless practice, emblematic of Judaism's fixation on physical matters. Christian theologians followed his lead, arguing that whereas Christians sought spiritual fulfillment, Jews remained mired in such pointless concerns as diet and circumcision. As time went on, Europeans developed folklore about malicious Jews who performed sacrificial murders of Christian children and delighted in genital mutilation. But Jews held unwaveringly to the belief that being a Jewish male meant being physically circumcised and to this day even most non-observant Jews continue to follow this practice. In this book, Leonard B. Glick offers a history of Jewish and Christian beliefs about circumcision from its ancient origins to the current controversy. By the turn of the century, more and more physicians in America and England--but not, interestingly, in continental Europe--were performing the procedure routinely. Glick shows that Jewish American physicians were and continue to be especially vocal and influential champions of the practice which, he notes, serves to erase the visible difference between Jewish and gentile males. Informed medical opinion is now unanimous that circumcision confers no benefit and the practice has declined. In Jewish circles it is virtually taboo to question circumcision, but Glick does not flinch from asking whether this procedure should continue to be the defining feature of modern Jewish identity.
