Silence and Other Surprising Invitations of Advent, a book by Enuma Okoro. Get Silence and Other Surprising Invitations of Advent Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Silence and Other Surprising Invitations of Advent books, Usually when we think of the Advent story, Mary, Joseph, and the angel Gabriel come to mind. Okoro approaches Advent a little differently, inviting us to sit for a while with Zechariah and Elizabeth and the story of how they came to bear their only son, John. "The Advent story we so often associate with the joy of Christmas actually begins with deep sorrow and longing. But thankfully, in the kingdom of God, there is always more to the story than meets the eye," Enuma Okoro writes. Zechariah and Elizabeth were good people. They had maintained faith and hope in God for many years, despite Elizabeth's inability to conceive, a condition considered shameful in their time. So they were quite familiar with the universal human experiences of longing and waiting. Even though this couple's story takes up only one chapter in Luke's Gospel, it contains enough lessons about faith and life to last for weeks. In her beautifully written, imaginative meditations for each day of Advent, Okoro looks closely at the doubts and longings of Zechariah and Elizabeth. As you explore their story, Okoro guides you to reflect on your own experiences of waiting and longing, of grief and the need for community, and of hungering for God. These poetic and poignant meditations will linger with you long after Christmas. Reflection questions and a prayer challenge accompany each week's meditations. A perfect book for individual or group study.

Advent to Pentecost, a book by Patrick Regan. Get Advent to Pentecost Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Advent to Pentecost books, Since 2007, use of the Roman Missal of 1962 has been broadly permitted within the church. This creates, in effect, two liturgical years running concurrently. In Advent to Pentecost, Abbot Patrick Regan compares the prayers and prefaces, readings and rubrics, calendar and chants of the 1962 Missal with those of the Missal as it was revised following the Second Vatican Council, now in its third edition. The result is a striking demonstration of the splendor and superiority of the reformed Missal over its predecessor, at least as far as the liturgical year is concerned. Regan's chapters on Advent, Lent, and the Easter Season are particularly informative because these seasons are so different in the two missals. Perhaps less obvious are the differences between Holy Week and the Triduum. Regan not only describes external modifications in the services as restored by Pius XII in 1956 but explores deeper theological currents, especially in the relationship between the passion and resurrection of the Lord in the one paschal mystery, to show how advances in this area find expression in the current Triduum celebrations and throughout the fifty days of Easter. The originality of the book lies mainly here. The most urgent liturgical challenge today, the author contends, is to raise the ars celebrandi to the same level of excellence as the Missal itself.

Advent and Psychic Birth, a book by Mariann Burke. Get Advent and Psychic Birth Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Advent and Psychic Birth books, The Christian season of Advent, covering the span of about four weeks prior to Christmas, is rich with religious and psychological significance. In the darkest, shortest days of the year, people turn their thoughts to rebirth and the creation of new light. It is a time for psychic birth guiding us toward wider consciousness and a heightened experience of life. This yearning in human beings goes back to the primal roots of civilization. The prayers and liturgies of the Advent season echo the myths of winter solstice festivals and the ancient desire of people to return to the nurturing chaos of unformed matter. Advent prayers parallel the efforts of alchemists who strove to turn base metal into higher and more noble elements. Advent expresses a fundamental longing for transformation.

An Advent for the Cosmos, a book by Jeffrey Pitts. Get An Advent for the Cosmos Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download An Advent for the Cosmos books, Welcome to "An Advent for The Cosmos". Advent means "coming", referring to Jesus' coming to earth as a baby, to ultimately redeem us and the rest of His creation. Like a typical advent book, this book consists of 25 daily Bible studies that build on one another to help keep you focused on the reason for the Christmas season. What is different about this advent book is that it incorporates some of the Biblical content of Dr. Michael Heiser's work on the divine council, the original context of the Scriptures, and the bigger cast of characters in the Bible. My hope is that this Advent book will expand the scope of your reading of the Bible, show you the extent of rebellion and corruption of God's creation, and convey the need for restoration. It will also trace Jesus' intervention throughout the story and explore the interaction between the visible and invisible worlds. There are three ways the word "Advent" or "coming" applies today: Remembering that Jesus came 2,000 years ago to redeem His cosmos, Seeing His action through believers every day to demonstrate His kingdom, and Knowing that He is coming again as King to complete the restoration of His corrupted creation. This book consists of 25 daily Bible Studies that are meant to be read starting on December 1st and culminating on December 25th (Christmas). Each day consists of Bible memory, an Intro to the day's topic, Bible Reading, a Summary and Discussion, Questions, a Prayer, and a Song or Songs that correspond with the day's study.A majority of the advent memory verses will trace the story of Faith in Hebrews 11 with other key verses as needed. A smaller segment of the memory verse has been highlighted for younger children if they cannot memorize the entire verse. This is not just a kid's book, but can be read as an individual, a couple, a family, a small group, or along with an entire church.

Christmastide, a book by Phyllis Tickle. Get Christmastide Books in several format like PDF, EPUB, Mobi. Download Christmastide books, The third and final volume in a trilogy of prayer manuals compiled by Publishers Weekly religion editor Phyllis Tickle as a contemporary Book of Hours to guide Christians gently yet authoritatively through the daily offices. The Divine Hours is the first major literary and liturgical reworking of the sixth-century Benedictine Rule of fixed-hour prayer. This beautifully conceived and thoroughly modern three-volume guide will appeal to the theological novice as well as to the ecclesiastical sophisticate. Making primary use of the Book of Common Prayer and the writings of the Church Fathers, The Divine Hours is also a companion to the New Jerusalem Bible, from which it draws its Scripture readings. The trilogy blends prayer and praise in a way that, while extraordinarily fresh, respects and builds upon the ancient wisdom of Christianity. The third and final book in the set, Prayers for Springtime, provides prayers, psalms, and readings for this season associated with rebirth. Compact, it is perfect for those seeking greater spiritual depth. As a contemporary Book of Hours, The Divine Hours: Prayers for Springtime heralds a renewal of the tradition of disciplined daily prayer, and gives those already using the first two volumes the completion they are seeking. With this volume, the series culminates with three prayer manuals encompassing the liturgical and calendar year with the offices for every day.

The author provides a reflection for each Sunday in the A, B, and C cycle, one for every weekday in Advent and, as an additional feature, one for every day in the Christmas season. This lovely gift book will delight and inspire classical music fans and those for whom Messiah is a beloved Christmas tradition with devotions exploring the Scriptures that make up Handel's Messiah. Forty reflections journey in order through Messiah, taking the reader deeper into less-often studied texts like Malachi 3:3 and bringing new light to popular passages like Luke 2:9-14.
